A rise in the number of job vacancies being posted on the Stockport Jobs Match website demonstrates employer confidence is returning and underlines an optimistic outlook for the local economy.
Launched to help match Stockport based employers with potential employees, the latest figures show a total of 42,505 jobs were advertised on Stockport Jobs Match in May compared with 30,409 in April. At its peak, 7,500 jobs were posted daily, an increase over 1,500 compared to the previous 4 weeks.
Website traffic has also reached a new high of 7,275 visits, a rise of over 80% in April.
Last week, Stockport was reported to not only be bucking the UK trend and showing positive signs of recovery, its Stockport shoppers are among the UK’s biggest spenders since non-essential retail reopened in April.
These latest figures alone can be seen to instil confidence among both local jobseekers and trainees who, following the impact of the pandemic, may be looking to change career paths. It is also encouraging for those who are looking for part-time positions or for flexible working. There is something for everyone and Stockport businesses are hiring!
Cllr David Meller, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said:
“Following the easing of further restrictions last month, we’ve seen a huge increase in vacancy numbers. There is renewed confidence and optimism amongst Stockport employers who had previously been cautious about recruiting but now need to urgently grow their teams to meet a surge in demand.
“It’s never been a better time to look for work – whether you’re a student needing a summer job or to take that first step in your career, you need part-time hours to top up your earnings or work around other commitments, or you’re considering moving into a completely new sector.
“The best starting point is to sign up to job alerts so you can explore about the latest opportunities and find out who’s hiring. As long as you have a CV, applying for jobs online is really easy so you could be starting your next challenge sooner than you think.”
Among the many vacancies are manual positions within warehousing, manufacturing, construction and logistics and positions within health & social care. Stockport based Allied Bakeries, part of the ABF Group, are looking to fill 70 vacancies by September; Stockport NHS have upwards of 70 roles to fill within the Care sector; and as well as 50+ empty seats at Ingeus’ call centre, Danish retailer JYSK have retail jobs available at their new store, due to open in Reddish in July.
Ideal for students and those looking for part-time work across the borough, The Wellington Pub, Plough on the Moor, La Capilla, Casino 36, Roost, The Produce Hall, The Elizabethan, The Church Inn and the Micker Brook are just a few of the pubs and restaurants with roles to fill.
As a result, supplier to the hospitality industry, Stephensons are urgently recruiting as they record one of their busiest trading periods.
